I had to review everything again, to keep it straight. So you did 14-12-11 ferti-lome systemic, so how long does that last? You could use this again in Area 1, according to directions. You could also use the 15-0-15 for the extra nitrogen and potassium. Have you used any organic fertilizers? Have you put any compost and then mulch down? These are important soil management practices. Do you hand water or do you have an irrigation system? The water soluble 17-17-28 could be used in this bed as a boost, it doesn’t last long.
In area 2, I would not use the ferti-lome, or the 17-17-28 in this bed. The 15-0-15 with any of the following, Muriate of potash 0-0-60, or Sulfate of potash or Potassium sulfate 0-0-50, or Espoma’s Potash 0-0-60 or Potassium nitrate, according to label directions.
Use the Root Ruckus or Natures Magic especially in area 2, but it won’t hurt to use in area 1 either.
Do you have a local rose society anywhere near you? A consulting Rosarian can give you some recommendations. Who did your soil testing?
Thanks for the response. My soil analysis was completed by the Mississippi State Extension Service. I have a soaker hose irrigation system. I have put down about 2 inches of cypress mulch, but no organics to speak of. The fertilome lasts about 4-6 weeks I believe. The closest rose society is in a different state and quite a distance away.
So, if I’m reading this correctly, you would use Fertilome, 15-0-15, and root ruckus in area 1? Then you would use both the 15-0-15 and potassium nitrate in area 2 along with the Root Ruckus, correct? How much and how often? Thanks!
Until you buy what you plan to use, and you read the labels for the instructions, it would be inadvisable for me to make specific recommendations. Once you purchase your fertilizers, post the product brand and what is in it and then I can look up the label. Please ask your feed & seed about what organic fertilizers they have that have the nitrogen and potassium, but low phosphorus. Organics are very helpful in improving soil health.
Ok, I have Centipede lawn fertilizer which is 15-0-15, muriate of potash which is 0-0-60, fertilome plus systemic which is 14-12-11, Root Ruckus, and Black Kow compost, I plan on adding the compost and Root Ruckus to both areas 1 and 2, the fertilome and 15-0-15 to area 1, and the 15-0-15 and potash to area 2. My question to you is how much of each you would advise as well as the frequency. My last fertilizer application was 6 weeks ago with the fertilome plus systemic (14-12-11) in both areas. Thanks again!
Adam
What brand centipede fertilizer did you get, I need to read the label.
It’s Fertilome. A pic is attached.

Also, the Root Ruckus gives two options: one as a spray to the leaves and one as a soil application. Which should I choose? Thanks!
Apply to Soil. I’m calculating the how much and how often on the ferts.
The 15-0-15 is urea based, which is a more slow release fertilizer, it needs to be converted by soil microbes into a useable form for your rose roots, apply 1 tablespoon around each rose every 6 weeks. For the 0-0-60, use 1 tablespoon now and then again in July, then again in October per rose in those areas in very low potassium. Always water before and after you fertilize. Please contact the Missoula Rose Society for their help: ci.missoula.mt.us, I’m done with recommendations, it is time for others to comment. Re-read all my comments and it should help you figure out how to treat your roses. Do another soil test in the late fall. Good luck!
Thanks, I have followed all of your recommendations and will keep you updated. Also, just for accuracy on the board in case anyone else has any thoughts, I live in Mississippi, not Montana. Thanks again.
I apologize about the incorrect rose society info, ooops, wrong state. There is the Northeast Mississippi Rose Society, but they only have a Facebook page. I sent the a post, hopefully they will respond with some ARS Consulting Rosarian contacts.
I am also curious how experienced rose gardeners on this forum incorporate fish emulsion into their fertilizer and organic adjunct programs. I know some rosararians swear by it for its readily available nitrogen and support of microbial soil health. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!
The Northeast Mississippi Rose Society meets the 1st Monday of most months, except July, field trip in June. Plz contact/ text ARS Consulting Rosarian Tracy Kramer 662-419-9737. She will have more regional advice.
You should create a new post about this, since your original post and answers is very long.
Will create a new post about the fish emulsion. Thanks!
