2026 ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses

Will this critical publication be printed and mailed to members?

It has been in the past but we do not yet know if that will be possible due to increased printing and postage costs. For sure the results will be on the Members bookshelf as the current edition is now.

This is troubling. We use this essential document in rose shows. Using electronic devices for rose shows is inconvenient and assumes you pay for internet access on your phone. Many of us pay by the gigabyte.

I don’t understand what the issue is. If the ARS can’t afford to print the Handbook of Roses (which I agree needs to be available printed), they should take the electronic copy and put it on Amazon so it can be Print-on-Demand ordered in paperback format. Yes, the skinny pamphlet, glossy format is nice but it’s better to have some kind of printed version rather than none. The cost would be small as long as they leave it simple, no fancy format, no fancy size, no color/glossy (see Paperback Printing Cost ) and amazon would take care of printing and shipping. And YES, it should be available to non-members who pay for it.
And fair warning to the ARS - if you inflate the P-O-D cost by more than a dollar or 2 of profit to go to the ARS, WE WILL KNOW AND PROTEST!

And yes, when the ARS gets back on its feet again, it would be a priority to give members a printed copy as part of their membership again.

This is a brilliant idea! This would help those of us who want and need the handbook. It is also a recruiting publication.

This is a great idea. I hope ARS will do this. I hold onto older copies just to have references for purchasing roses, too. Our club has used it in the spring at events where we help customers at a garden center select their roses for purchase, too.

Update - Craig Dorschel said in the last ARS webinar that the handbook WILL be printed.
