I planted a Black Baccara this year and would love to exhibit it (such a dramatic rose!). The foliage is going good, and I’ve got it coming out with some good singles and sprays. However, the petals are so velvety, even well formed buds don’t really have that satisfying ‘cone’ shape as they open in the center. Any suggestions on how to get this to open up a little better?
I used to grow this rose and believe the petals have a lot of substance to them. Play with them with your fingers to gently move the petals, or use q tips, knitting needles etc to get them to open more. Practice with them and you’ll be ready for the show!
