Further Reading Resources

Hello! Fellow rose-nerd here. I’ve found myself especially drawn to the Centifolia class of roses, and I am interested in reading whatever I can get my hands on. I’ve worked my way through everything I could read/watch on the internet. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can go to learn more about this class of rose? I am interested in reading any book suggestions and talking to anyone with expertise

Peter Beales book “Classic Roses” has a few pages from 149 to 155 on Centifolias. This is a marvelous book and should be in every rosarians library. I looked through many of my rose books, this one had the most information and pictures of many.

Hello miarynbrandt, I would recommend the book ‘Historical Roses’ from the Rosarium Sangerhausen, the largest rosarium in the world. This work was originally written in German and translated into English. Many nice pictured Centifolias are presented there with descriptions of growth and flowering, along with their individual traits and distinguishing characteristics. The link below can give you a first impression. In my opinion, there is nothing comparable on the market. I use it regularly. Unfortunately, the English version is hard to get. I had already seen it once on Amazon.

The volume is divided into:

  1. Rosa gallica
  2. Rosa x damascena
  3. Rosa x alba
  4. Rosa x centifolia
  5. Moss Roses
