I’m hoping someone can help identify this rose that was already established in our rose garden when we moved into our home in 2006, so the cultivar must predate 2006. We are in the Seattle, Washington area.
Here are the characteristics I’ve observed:
- Bush is approximately 2½ feet tall and stays quite compact.
- Mature blooms appear to be approximately 2–2½ inches across.
- Flowers are double/full, with considerably more petals than a typical semi-double rose.
- Color is predominantly bright red/scarlet with irregular cream, white and pale-pink striping/splashes. The amount of variegation varies considerably from flower to flower.
- No detectable fragrance.
- It is an exceptionally prolific bloomer and blooms repeatedly/essentially continuously throughout the growing season.
- Flowers frequently occur in clusters.
- Foliage is relatively small and the plant has a dense, bushy growth habit.
- Some of the unopened buds show considerable cream/pale coloration before becoming predominantly red as they open.
I’ve considered Stars ’n’ Stripes, but its documented bloom size and lower petal count make me wonder whether this is a different older miniature or compact floribunda.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, particularly from anyone familiar with older striped miniature or compact roses that were available before 2006.
