Hello Rosies,
Please give me your advice here. I planted this climber at the end of July. It’s growing new canes, I’ve seen a few flowers but I tried to move my planter and it broke!
Will it die if I replant it at this early stage of its life ?
How do I move this into a new planter safely and when? I’m in zone 7B .
Ouch, I’m sorry! I don’t know what the temps are like there now, but if they’re still hot and drier, the plant may benefit from not being transplanted during the hotter period. You may tie ropes around the container to draw the split ends together and hold them there tightly so you can continue watering the plant without all the water washing out and taking the soil with it through the split. Once the weather cools, plant growth and water needs begin to slow down, making transplanting a bit safer. Hopefully, you’ll be able to place the new container neat the old and gently lift the root ball out of the damaged one and slide it into the new one. As long as there isn’t major disturbance of the root ball, the plant may not even seem to notice it’s been moved. That’s the real issue, not disturbing the roots. Of course there will likely be a bit of soil loss and loosening. Hopefully they’ve knit that soil ball together sufficiently there won’t be much. It will probably benefit from a bit of new soil in the bottom of the new container as well as some above the root ball to help replenish any which may have begun breaking down. Good luck!

Measure around the container to determine the distance around it. Go to a hardware/home improvement store and purchase a couple of small ratchet straps that are long enough to reach all the way around with at least several inches to spare. Put them around the container and tighten them. If you are unfamiliar with these, someone at the store should be able to tell you how to use them.
