Hello, I’m not exactly new to roses but I’ve never actually cared for them properly. I purchased 4 new roses this spring, strictly for their fragrance. One is a climber. I transplanted two existing roses to make room for two at my front gate, on either side.
They initially bloomed a little but now are just growing like crazy with no blooms. My bushes in back are blooming beautifully..
I’m in zone 7. What might they need to bloom?
It may be possible you transplanted Dr Huey, the root stock upon which the roses someone purchased, were budded on. See if this looks like the one which flowered. 'Dr. Huey' Rose If it does, you probably want to dump them and replace them with roses you want. Huey is historic as it was the first cold hard, dark colored climber. Prior to its introduction, they were mainly white and pastel colors. A century ago, it was something desirable. Today, probably not so much as it is once flowering and rather disease prone, but that choice is yours. If the roses you transplanted used to flower regularly with different blooms, that’s likely what’s happened. The desired roses are being (or have been) over taken by the root stock suckers.
The transplanted roses are coral in color and bloom profusely. My husband was very careful to take the entire root system out. My new roses are not climbers but bushes. Light pink with lovely old rose fragrance. I’m so sorry but i canot remember the names. I purchased on line from a company that also sells roses in UK.
