Hello beautiful people! This is not a normal post for me, but here goes…
Know anything about miniature roses? Trying to figure out what the light requirements for it is. Getting mixed info online. Currently on my windowsill. Mostly getting bright indirect sunlight. Trying not to kill this one
TIA
Generally, miniature roses are not house plants. Windows tend to concentrate the sunlight like magnifying glasses. Often, the air is too hot and too dry. If at all possible, the plant will be FAR better off if planted in a large (15” or better) insulated pot (foam preferably) in good potting soil and placed outdoors in at least half day sun, preferably morning as that is the “cleanest”, coolest sunlight. You want a large enough soil ball that sun shining directly on the pot won’t over heat it, cooking all the water from the soil ball and literally cooking the rose roots. An insulated foam pot will also help with that. A small pot, such as the 4” and 6” pots they are frequently sold in will fry in direct sun and hot weather, literally killing the plant rather quickly.
If you must grow minis indoors, grow lights approximately one foot over the top of the plant and kept turned on most of the day may provide enough light to keep it happy. You will have to be diligent watching for spider mites, aphids and mealy bugs and providing sufficient humidity for the plant. Insects hitch rides on YOU and your pets and quickly infest indoor plants.

Plantmom84,
I have always worked on the theory that a miniature rose is simply a normal rose in miniature, so what ever you would do with your other roses, do with your miniatures.

Welcome to the forum. Miniature roses are best not treated like a houseplants. They will be healthiest planted in a container outside. However, as also mentioned, if you can create a greenhouse like environment with grow lights, you might be able to keep it healthy. House environments can be very dry, which encourages spider mites. What zone are you in? If you live in a very cold zone, you would need to protect your miniature rose in a basement or garage.
Zone 6a. I put it outside and it’s getting a decent amount of light now.

Your rose will be happier and grow better. It needs that direct sunlight.

In my experience miniature roses don’t do well as house plants. I have purchased those you find in the grocery store and they do OK inside for awhile but then start to struggle. I have however planted these outside in the garden and have very good luck with them surviving and thriving. I do agree if you want to keep inside full sun is critical. I’m technically in Zone 6a but we get some very cold winters

No rose is a “house plant”. There are ways of recreating the environment they require but that’s expensive and full of pest problems. Plant your mini in pots largr enough not to cook solid in your heat and sun. Provide them with protection from the extremes of your sun and treat them as they are…a rose. Over winter as you do all of your other potted roses. Enjoy!
