New Member Question: How to Get Connected?

Hello! My name is Mia and I am thrilled to be joining this community. I just joined the ARS as a member and I live in Wheaton, Illinois.

I have two main questions: 1) What is the best way to get in touch with fellow members of the ARS? I’ve tried to get in touch with my local society via email and the website, but I have not had success in hearing back from them yet. I do not know if I happen to live in a sleepier rose area, or if I am communicating improperly. Is this forum a better method to connect with fellow rosarians?

  1. What are next steps to becoming a consulting rosarian?

Hi Mia, Welcome!

You did not mention where you live and the name of your local rose society. You can try to contact the president of the society directly. It is possible that your local rose society may not be active or may no longer be existing. ARS may be able to direct you to your closest rose societyTypically there used to be a requirement that one must be an ARS member for three years. Then one must attend a CR school, which is typically a day long. You may be able to take the course on line too. After that one muct take a written test. You become a CR when you pass the test and you will receive your CR certificate from the ARS susually through your district director.

Hello, Satish! Thank you for your response.

I live in Wheaton, Illinois which is in Dupage county. I had reached out via the Illinois/Indiana website, but had difficulty locating contact information for individual societies. Which active societies are nearest me?

Hi Mia! Im in Chicago (Skokie) and had issues as well. I was really surprised this area doesn’t have a local chapter! A few months ago I finally got emailed info about a conference for the indiana/illinois chapter, can’t recall what month but it’s coming up i believe. If you or anyone else wants to start up something in Illinois/Chicago then I’d be very interested!:rose:

Welcome Mia, please don’t give up. So far you have a response from Catherine ( welcome to Catherine) Look up your district on the ARS website and contact the director. We are thrilled you want to become a CR. You will need to join a local rose society and be active in it, if possible.
