I uncovered a rose bush (tea I think) from 15 + years of Honeysuckle and grape vines from my neighbors side yard. I have cared for it this season. How do I overwinter this little beauty? Zone6B.
All you have to do is put some mulch around the bud union. Dump a fair amount of mulch right on the bush. You want to have a pyramid that is 6-10 inches high or so. Don’t just scoop mulch from the garden - get some new mulch. Soil mounded around the plant will also work. If any canes are more than chest-high, prune them to chest-high so they don’t whip around too much in the wind.
I winterize my roses (zone 5b) around Thanksgiving. You could do this the week after the holiday.
