Hi everyone,
I’m new to gardening (zone 7B New York City ) and recently planted nine potted rose bushes, including two climbers, . Most were planted mid-to-late July, with a few more added in the first week of August.
Now I’m wondering if I have a chance for them to still do well after being planted at this time of year. I’d love any advice—especially on how to support them through their first winter.
Thank you!

Keep ‘em moist and mulch the soil to help keep the roots cool. If they are in pots, I would suggest locating the “new babies” out of the stressful mid-day sun until they are established. (Put your finger in the soil to see how hot the soil is.) Also avoid placing the containers on sizzling hot cement. These first few months you may need to provide extra care until new roots grow into the surrounding soil. Good luck and enjoy your new blooms.

Welcome ladybug. Roses can do very well in containers. You should have some good growth and nice blooms in the fall. You will want to encourage root growth. You can use such supplements as Superthrive, Natural Alternatives Protelizer and or Senn’s Sennsational-SEAUMIC. Enjoy them.

Thank you so much!! I will add your recommendations! I currently have Rose Tone, Big Roses and Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer. I’m figuring out how often to use them, can I combine them with your suggestions?
Thank you so much! Are wooden deck tiles enough to protect from the hot cement? If so, I can place them on those.
Not sure how hot the cements gets at your place or if the wooden tiles will be enough. Worth a try. I’m sure the wood will provide some insulation. You can check by putting your hand on top of the wooden deck tiles. It’s also possible to purchase decorative risers for potted plants to keep pots off the patio to prevent water rings and that would also help. Good luck. Let me know what works.
Yes, you can combine them because they are not fertilizers but bio stimulants. They stimulate root growth. Depend on the label instructions, some can be used every few weeks, or if you use less of the supplement, you could do so weekly.
