I am trying to track down a historic rose called Mrs. Calvin Coolidge. The rose is hybrid tea, golden yellow to buff, with an orange center. It was released in 1924 in honor of First Lady Grace Coolidge. Emily at the American Rose Society suggested I contact the knowledgeable gardeners on this forum to see if there’s someplace where I can locate more information about this rose. Context: I work for the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation and Grace Coolidge’s garden is still maintained by the staff at the Calvin Coolidge birthplace in Vermont.
If you have any suggestions on where else to look, could you please let me know? Thank you.
The ONLY listed potential plant on Help Me Find-Roses is in the Vintage Gardens collection. It isn’t shown as growing in any other existing garden in the world, nor is it shown as being offered by any nursery in their database. Their HT Curator is John Bagnasco who maintains a collection of roses which are propagated for the annual auctions for the CCRS,. California Coastal Rose Society. You can contact them through their web site to inquire if the rose still exists in their collection and whether it might be possible to obtain material for propagation or perhaps even a plant. Good luck!
Thank you. I appreciate your help.
You’re welcome. I hope it works out for you. Too often, the rose is simply extinct.
