Seeking Bright Yellow Tea Rose Bushes

Hi,
I am looking for bright yellow (not pale yellow) tea rose bushes that have a sweet fragrance. I am looking for tea roses because I have had bright red tea roses in the past that have had the sweet fragrance that I am seeking. I am located about 45 miles east of Atlanta, GA. Does anyone know of a place in my area where I could go to see this type of rose bush before buying them? If not, does anyone know where I could order them from? If at all possible, I really would like to see them in person before purchasing because I have bought roses in the past that were supposed to be bright yellow, but ended up being pale yellow. Also, if you have any suggestions for another variety that is bright yellow and has a sweet fragrance, I would be interested in considering them as well. Thank you in advance for your help.

I planted one this year, a shrub rose called Radiant Perfume. Bright yellow and very fragrant. Doing well so far, even in Arkansas heat!

Thank you! I appreciate it. Did you get it local? Or, did you order it online? Thanks again!

I bought it from a local nursery, but it is a Weeks rose, so you can find it where that brand is sold.

If it blooms again I’ll post a photo!

Ok. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Do you want an old garden tea rose or a modern hybrid tea?

I think a modern hybrid. I want something with large blooms. Thank you.

Not all the following are hybrid teas but all are bright yellow and I have had good luck with them in my garden south of Atlanta. If not available in your local nursery (best availability is in spring) you can certainly order them online (suggest the fall for cooler temps) from reputable sources such as Heirloom Roses, Edmunds Roses, Roses Unlimited, and Witherspoon Rose Culture, Also, go to www.helpmefind.com and search roses for photos. my recommendations are: Gold Medal (grandiflora), Radiant Perfume (HT), Sparkle & Shine (floribunda), Julia Child (floribunda), and South Africa (grandiflora).

Witherspoon Rose Culture has a large store in Durham, N. C. They ship bare root roses early spring. Do some research on these: Henry Fonda, Hotel California, Mellow Yellow, Midas Touch. Mellow Yellow is the most disease resistant. You should also call all the garden centers from a distance you are willing to drive and see what roses, if any, they carry.

Star Roses and Plants sells the following roses to garden centers, you may find one you like: Eleganza Sunny Sky, Gina Lollobrigida, Michelangelo. If you don’t mind a little bit of pink edging the Grandiflora Gold Struck might do for you. From this group Sunny Sky is a Kordes and will have the best disease resistance.

Please keep in mind most yellow roses do not have good resistance to black spot and will need to be sprayed with some type of fungicide to keep them healthy. There are not many excellent yellow hybrid teas as compared to pinks and reds.

Ok. Thank you. I appreciate all of the information. I will look into the roses that you suggested and see if one or more is what I’m looking for. Thanks again.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I will check them out. Thanks again.

I have two bushes of Robert Bruce, one on Multiflora and one Own Root. Although the bloom does have good form, I would not recommend this rose as a good garden rose. In Zone 5b Chicagoland, it typically dies back considerably over winter (despite protection) and is only an average grower at best, thus struggling to ever reach a good size. RB is best left to the exhibitors, IMHO.

I recently bought 2 Robert Bruce roses. I have 27 various roses and they do well here in CA.(near Palm Springs). I hope they do well here!

Here is a photo of a recent bloom. May not be as big as you are looking for, but wonderful fragrance!
