Hello Rose Lovers!
Melissa Boerman here, from the great white north in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Houghton) along the shores of majestic Lake Superior. I moved back here in 2021 & am adjusting my 30 years of rose growing & gardening to my new 5b zone. It has been a challenge, but so much fun!
I have a smaller garden, but am expanding it this summer, from 25 roses currently, & building to 50 roses, God willing. For the 1st time, I grew 2 tree roses in 2023 & had fun connecting with other rosarians in zones 4 & 5 who had success growing tree roses.
I am starting a local Rose Society here. I volunteer in our city’s beautification gardens & our group sponsors a small rose garden in the center of town.
I am excited to encourage anyone who wants to grow roses & especially dispel myths that roses are hard to grow, especially in cold & snowy climates.
I am excited to be a part of this forum & get to know everyone better!

Gabrielle Miglis here in Hampton Virginia. I am past President of the Omaha Rose Society, Don Swanson is my mentor extraordinaire! I had over 250 roses of all classes in Omaha, moved to San Antonio and took 120 with me and unfortunately had to leave 150. Last May we moved to Hampton Virginia to take care of my Mum and I am steadily growing my garden of all classes. I am a member of the Richmond Rose Society because the Peninsula Rose Society is closed to new members. Grateful for this forum, excited to grow in my lovely sandy loam soil! My name is Carolyn Elgar, and I am editor of the Orange County Rose Society newsletter, the Rose Gazette. I am a Master Rosarian; we have about 168 roses. Many are miniatures in pots. The weather in Southern California is perfect of roses - except when it’s hot in the late summer and early fall. As the years have passed, it has gotten hotter and hotter at that time of year. But in spring and early summer - wonderful blooms.
Hi, my name is Jeannie Cochell and I have been a CR since 2001 and a Master Rosarian since 2012. I’ve grown hundreds of roses in Phoenix, AZ.over the past 30 years but after moving to the southwestern MO Ozarks last year, I’m down to one lonely container rose right now. I’m currently a member of both the Phoenix (AZ) Rose Society and the Kansas City (MO) Rose Society. I’m looking forward to meeting other rosarians in my area as I start growing roses in a completely different climate.
